July 16, (THEWILL) – At least four persons have been confirmed dead and 11 others injured, in a lone accident involving a Foton bus, at the Aiyetoro axis, on the Lagos–Ibadan expressway on Sunday.
Spokesperson of the Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the incident.
According to Akinbiyi, the accident caused by tyre burst, involved 15 people comprising three men and 12 women; adding that 11 women were injured, while the three men and one woman died.
“According to eyewitness account, the bus marked AGL 989 YA was coming from Ibadan inbound Lagos, when it had a tyre burst on the driver’s side at Ayetoro axis on the expressway, which led the bus to summersault into a ditch”, he said.
Akinbiyi said bodies of the dead victims were deposited at Idera morgue, Sagamu, while the injured were rushed to Famobis hospital, Mowe.
He appealed to drivers to avoid excessive speed, fairly-used tyres and adhere to traffic rules and regulations.
