The Recording Academy, organizers of the Grammy Awards, has sparked outrage on social media for decribing Nigerian music stars, Wizkid and Rema, as ‘up-and-coming artistes’.
The Grammy Awards recently introduced three new categories for their upcoming 2024 award show, namely Best African Music Performance, Best Pop Dance Recording, and Best Alternative Jazz Album.
In a recent social media post, the Academy shared photos of “up-and-coming black artists everyone should watch out for,” featuring Wizkid and Rema.
This announcement did not sit well with some Nigerians, particularly Wizkid’s fans, who found it demeaning considering his status as one of the most successful music artists in Africa.
They took to social media to criticize the organizers for what they described as a disrespectful post, stressing that the post should be immediately deleted.
