Herdsmen in renewed onslaught in Benue State, killed over 8 persons, including women and children, when they struck in Yelewata community in Guma Local Government Area.

The herdsmen were said to have kidnapped one resident of the community and inquired two others.

Chairman of Guma Local Council, Caleb Abah, confirming incident, had narrated that the herdsmen invaded Yelewata Market at about 6.00pm on Tuesday when traders were about to shut down.

Caleb was cited to have narrated: “On that fateful day, the armed Fulani herdsmen stormed Yelewata Market and started shooting sporadically where the people were busy buying and selling their goods and equally conducting local bam (local contribution).

“In the process, the armed herders killed eight persons, injured two others, and abducted one person.”

The injured persons were said to have been taken to a private hospital in Makurdi for treatment.

The military operation team in Benue State, Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), was said to have confirmed the attack, acknowledging that six persons were killed and three injured.

The Benue State Police Command was also said to have confirm the invasion and killings by the herdsmen.
