The appeals of the 12 detained aides of Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, were granted by the Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday.

In his judgement on the ex parte application before the court, Justice Obiora Egwuatu ordered the Department of State Service to produce Sunday Igboho’s jailed aides in court on the next adjourned date.

The DSS was also instructed by Justice Egwuatu to show reason why the petitioners should not be granted bail.

The case was rescheduled until July 29 to coincide with the court’s summer break.

Remember that Sunday Adeyemo, nicknamed Sunday Igboho, and his 12 jailed associates filed a lawsuit against the Department of State Services and its Director-General, Yusuf Bichi.

Pelumi Olajengbesi, the applicants’ counsel, filed an ex parte motion asking the court to issue an order “mandating and compelling the respondents to produce the applicants” so that the court can “investigate the circumstances constituting grounds for their arrest and detention” since July 1, 2021, and grant applicants bail if it appears appropriate.

They also asked for a court order for the respondents to bring the applicants before the court and “show cause why the applicants should not be granted bail in compliance with section 32 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015 and other extant Nigerian laws.”

An eight-paragraph affidavit, exhibit, eleven-paragraph affidavit of severe urgency, affidavit of non-complicity of action, and a written address backed up the ex-parte motion.
