Of course, we’re rooting for Seun Kuti & The Egypt 80’s in the ‘Best World Album’ category, but we are also confident that Nigerian-American, Ibra Ake will bag the award for ‘Best Music Video‘ for his work on Childish Gambino’s “This Is America”.
Ibra Ake is a visual artist who frequently collaborates with Donald Glover, even working as a staff writer on the Emmy-winning comedy, Atlanta. In fact, Ake penned one of the most notorious episodes of the show, “Champagne Papi”, which earned a retort from Drake himself.
Last year, Ake worked as one of the production heads behind the viral “This Is America” clip, which is deservedly nominated for ‘Best Music Video’ alongside The Caters’ “APES**T”, Janelle Monáe’s “Pynk”, Tierra Whack’s “Mumbo Jumbo” and Joyner Lucas’ “I’m Not Racist”.
Both Ibra Ake and Seun Kuti are up for their very first Grammys this year, and we can’t wait to get up on our feet with applause when their names are announced, as they are the clear favourites to win in their respective categories.
