Still little known in outside of the U.S., Powers Pleasant plays an important role In the New York hip-hop scene. As the spearhead of the Pro Era collective, which he founded in 2011 alongside the late Capital Steez, this producer, DJ and drummer contributed to the rise of a young Joey Bada$$, helping to produce his first album B4DA$$ which was released in 2015.
It’s no surprise then that Joey Bada$$ features in "Pull Up", the very first single by Powers Pleasant, who has opted to launch his career as a rapper. Released on April 11, this punchy track, which also features A$AP Ferg, is accompanied by a video clip in which the three rappers evoke their journey along the road to success.
To do this, the three buddies immersed themselves in the world of racing car enthusiasts. Filmed in Tokyo and Brooklyn, the video plunges us into the journey undertaken by Powers Pleasant and Joey Bada$$ on a mission to find a secret flask whose fluorescent yellow content will allow A$AP Ferg to reach lightning speed.
Providing the first verse of the track, Joey Bada$$ uses a metaphor inspired by the car world:
"Hold up, stay in your lane
Nigga never pass me
Fuck 5-0 they will never catch me
Only time I drive slow is for the paparazzi
Just to get a good pic, then it’s back to godspeed"
