Some explosions have rocked Rivers State, causing some stir in the place.
The explosions caused by fire rocked an oil field controlled by Eroton Exploration and Production Limited in Rivers State’s Akuku Toru Local Government Area.
The National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA) announced this on Tuesday, adding that it had received a report of a fire at two Eroton Exploration and Production Limited oil wells (EEPL).
Idris Musa, Director-General of NOSDRA, stated that the twin accidents occurred on Monday at Akaso Wells 14 and 4T Wellheads.
Musa explained that when the event was reported to the agency, the corporate officials of the spills agency, as well as the oil firm’s Emergency Response Team (ERT), were quickly mobilised to the location.
He said, “The company has mobilised a vendor, which is expected to arrive the incident location today, October 4, 2022, to extinguish the raging fire from the Wells; the agency will supervise the activity accordingly.
“An illegal boat was observed at the location, which was suspected to be engaged in oil theft. The boat has been completely burnt but the fire on the boat has been extinguished.”
The Director-General said that a situation room was created by the company for effective communication with all relevant stakeholders.
