APC youth group endorses Oshiomhole, Fashogbon ahead of national convention, warns against imposition of candidates by governors

– All is now set for the All Progressives Congress (APC) national convention scheduled for Saturday, June 23

– Endorsements are the order of the day as Nigeria‘s ruling party members vote in new leaders ahead of the 2019 general elections

– Key stakeholders are rallying round and sticking out their necks for their favourites ahead of the weekend exercise

A youth group within the All Progressive Congress (APC) southwest region, – Progressive Youth Movement (PYM), has endorsed the candidature of former Edo state governor Comrade Adams Oshiomhole and Dr Fashogbon Oluwatayo Solomon ahead of the party’s national convention.

A former labour leader, Oshiomhole, is aspiring for the post of national chairman, while front-line youth advocate, Fashogbon is eyeing the position of deputy national youth leader of the party.

PYM coordinator, Ayokunle Oloye, in a statement sent to NAIJ.com, said the party needs experienced and faithful leaders who could lead the party to victory and provide adequate political leadership for the party.

The group said it had resolved to reach out to delegates from the other parts of Nigeria to ensure a positive support for Comrade Oshiomole and Dr Fashogbon at the convention.

“The future of our party lies on a very successful convention and electing capable leaders who could peacefully interfaces with all stakeholders and propagate developments and achievements of the Buhari-led federal government.

“If qualities will be brought to bear in achieving the ideals of the APC, we believe the duo of Oshiomhole and Dr Fashogbon will be leaders the party deserve to have to make our party grow,” Oloye said.

The group said Fashogbon like Oshiomhole are in the race to provide credible youth leadership together with a new set of party leaders which would take the party to the next level.

“These are men of integrity capable of helping to create a new brand of APC that will take the country to the next level of greatness.

“After meeting in Akure, the Ondo state capital over the weekend as stakeholders in the APC, we endorsed the candidature of Comrade Oshiomhole and our very own Dr Fashogbon at the general convention. Fashogbon has been consistently galvanizing youths in the interest of the since it’s creation,” he added.

The group also warned against jeopardizing the interest of millions of youths in the APC as party leaders negotiates a rancorous free party convention.

“We understand that there is a unity list being put together, and party leaders especially governors are having their way as usual, but let it be known that interest of APC youths should not be traded, we appeal to southwest delegates and political leaders to support Oshiomhole and Fashogbon in cause of negotiating the future of our party,” the statement concluded.

Meanwhile, a member of the publicity sub-committee of the APC convention organising committee, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, has said there will be no ‘unity list,’ as speculated in several media reports.

Dabiri-Erewa who spoke to journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, June 19, after a brief meeting between APC governors and the sub-committee at the convention secretariat, however, said there was room for affirmation and consensus.

She also confirmed reports that APC governors are scheduled to meet today, Wednesday, June 20, in Abuja to decide on a consensus list of aspirants for its National Working Committee positions.
