Nollywood actor Yul Edochie withdraws from the 2019 presidential election
Nollywood actor Yul Edochie who earlier declared his ambition to run for presidency in 2019 on the platform of All Progressives Grand Alliance has opted out of this scheme and announced that he is withdrawing from the race.
Yul who has been active in politics for a long while said he made the decision to step down from his presidential bid after proper considerations and consultations.
Before taking a plunge at the federal level, the politician had earlier joined the gubernatorial race for Anambra state which was held in 2017. He contested for this post via the platform of the Democratic People’s Congress (DPC).
Although he did not win, the actor turned politician went on to clinch a post as the senior special adviser of Creative and Entertainment Media to the governor of Anambra state. This happened about two months ago.
As earlier reported by NAIJ.com, the son of the veteran actor Pete Edochie declared his ambition to run for presidential elections in 2019 under the umbrella of DPC at about the same time he lost the governorship post to Willie Obiano who is the current governor of Anambra state.
He revealed his intention on Twitter and Instagram with these words: “Today I declare my interest to run for President of the greatest country in the world, Nigeria. A blessed country that has been crippled by decades of bad leadership. Enough is Enough! Fellow Nigerians, stand with me let us bring the problems of our country to the THE LAST BUS STOP!!!”
At the time, a lot of speculations were made about whether Yul would go through with his plan given his political appointment. Well, it would seem that the politician has decided not to contest in the upcoming 2019 presidential elections. He took to Twitter and Instagram to make his withdrawal known.
