THE Ekiti State Police Commissioner, Tunde Mobayo, said on Sunday that the state Police Command would partner its Ondo State counterpart to fish out and bring to justice the gunmen that killed an Ekiti State-bound traveller at the Iju, Ondo State end of Akure – Ado Ekiti Road.

Sources said the travellers, who were heading towards Ado Ekiti, were attacked by gunmen at Iju area of the Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State near the border of the two states, following which the driver, who escaped, reported the matter at Ikere Ekiti Police Station while the victim was as well taken to hospital in Ikere Ekiti, Ekiti State for treatment.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Ekiti State Police Command, Sunday Abutu, who confirmed the attack in a statement titled, ‘Iju shooting: CP vows to bring the perpetrators to book’, said, “Ekiti Command shall join force with Ondo State Police Command to ensure that the perpetrators are made to face the full wrath of the law.”

Abutu said, “Discrete investigation and serious manhunt have been launched on the gunmen that allegedly shot at a commercial vehicle along Iju in Ondo State, which led to the death of one of the passengers about 18.45hours on Saturday.

“The driver accounted that he was brave enough to have speedily escaped with his passengers from the scene. In the process, according to him and the passengers, one of the passengers was unfortunately hit by a bullet and was rushed to General Hospital, Ikere-Ekiti where he later died.”
