The National Conscience Party (NCP) presidential aspirant for the forthcoming 2019 general election, Dr. Thomas-Wilson Ikubese has stated reasons for his withdrawal from the race, alleging violation of the objectives and goals of the party from its executives.

Ikubese who spoke to newsmen in Akure on Monday noted that some executive members have privatized the party, swerving from the laid down rules and principles stipulated by the founder Chief Gani Fawehinmi.

According to him, fairness, equity and justice informed the creation of the party, but some elements have decided to work against the long-aged ideology.

Stating his reasons for quitting the party, Ikubese alleged that, the National Chairman Yunusa Tanko and the National Secretary Ayodele Akele drafted a document directing that any Presidential Aspirant who is less than 2yrs in the party should pay the sum of N7.04 million naira to the Party.

He described this act as unconstitutional and a total violation of the age-long tradition laid down by Chief Gani Fawehinmi, that party members who seek to run for offices should do so at no cost, as a populist Party, as to encourage the masses to thereby participate actively in politics.

Ikubese equally alleged that the National Chairman, Yunusa Tanko did not resign his position and declared interest to contest for the same presidential seat, noting that Tanko upholds the power to approbate and reprobate, following his duo title in the party.

In view of these therefore, Ikubese wrote to withdraw his presidential aspiration and quits the party.

His words, “Since the National Chairman and General Secretary of the party have obviously compromised the integrity for which the party is known, I hereby withdraw my membership of the NCP forthwith, for if I remain in the Party, it is obvious that the duo will use the Party machinery to the advantage of Tanko. And should I defeat him in the primaries, he and his accomplices will most likely work against me in the general elections”, he said.

He finally urged party members to rise up and protect the legacy of justice and equity in the party, noting that he will be joining forces with genuine progressive-minded individuals and groups to birth the new Nigeria of our dream.
