LASG organises fair, places 1,000 students on internship
It was part of activities of the 2017 edition of the Ready, Set Work event, an employability and entrepreneurship programme established by the government, through the ministry.
On the platform of the RSW, the government has concluded plans to place 1,000 students on a six-month internship with multinationals, banks and other companies.
These are those who successful went through the RSW, which was launched some two years ago.
Two thousand students from the Lagos State owned tertiary institutions as well as the University of Lagos are currently participating in the second edition of the programme.
The fair brought corporate organisations and other employers to interview the students on the skills they have acquired towards taking them on internship for a period of six months.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Obafela Bank-Olemoh, noted that the RSW had internship placement for 1,000 students.
He added that others could utilise the skills acquired during the training period to create jobs for themselves.
According to Bank-Olemoh, 70 companies participated at the fair aimed at equipping the participants with practical work experience to enable them stand out in line with the core objective of the RSW initiative.
He expressed the conviction that the participants had been fully charged for entrepreneurship life.
According to him, none of the graduates being churned out from tertiary institutions in the country were better than those who went through the RSW programme.
“The Lagos State Government has laid a solid foundation for these young Nigerians. They have been equipped with skills, knowledge and experiences that will transform their lives. Now, they are being linked to the business world, to start an experience and a relationship that will secure the future for them,” Bank-Olemoh said, adding that an additional 10,000 students in their penultimate year from the same institutions were also being mentored online, through the RSW Academy.
