NLC Strike: Better To Return Fuel Subsidy Than Increase Salaries to N200,000 – Adeyanju to Tinubu

Activist, Deji Adeyanju has urged President Bola Tinubu not to increase the national minimum wage to N200,000.

According to him, Tinubu should instead return the subsidy of fuel and sell the refineries.

Adeyanju said only the politicians and civil servants would enjoy the increased minimum wage of N200,000.

This is coming when the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, commenced its nationwide protest strike over the hike in the pump price of fuel.

The increment was due to the removal of fuel subsidy by Tinubu during his inauguration on May 29.

To cushion the effect of the subsidy removal, the NLC demanded an increase in the minimum wage to N200,000.

Responding, Adeyanju tweeted: “It is better to return fuel subsidy than to just increase salaries of civil servants to N200k because the number of civil servants in Nigeria are not up to 3% of the population.

“It will mean only politicians and civil servants will be enjoying subsidy removal.

“The solution is in plain sight for all to see. Return fuel subsidy, sell the refineries and once they start functioning well, remove it permanently.

“How hard can common sense be? With fuel at N617, inflation will drive our economy to the ground and weaken the Naira more.”
