A Nigerian Air Force fighter jet has gone missing while on a mission in Borno State, the epicenter of the Boko Haram insurgency.

The aircraft lost radar communication during a routine flight, according to NAF spokesperson Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet.

Source told Gazette Nigeria that the aircraft was assisting troops in one of the theaters of action in the northern part of the country.

“Efforts are currently ongoing to locate its whereabouts. Details to follow,” Gabkwet said.

Nigeria’s Armed Forces are fighting Boko Haram terrorists in the northeast and bandits in other parts of the country in a number of Theaters of Operation.

In February, seven members of the Force were killed when an aircraft crashed near the Abuja airport after suffering engine failure.

The plane was en route to Niger State to assist in the rescue of schoolchildren abducted by bandits.
