The Preacher
Okechukwu Onuegbu

My African soil
Fertility of lively plants
In you, my heart sow
Germinate it now or I die
Your colour is chameleon skin
Adapt O my colour
Your tongue is shortwave band
Trill my ear beyond the sky
Smash the blocking blocks
I have toiled hell to heaven
In furnace, freezer…cared scores of foams
Sucked millions of baby food
Swum virgin and unvirgin valleys
Unsatisfactory, I bolted my door
Vowed to Rosary Priests grave
While I spotted you
The pride of Barbados
Your fragrance stole my anger
Your picture withdrawn my hunger

The tree I leaned
The eye I mirror world
Spectacle of dying lens
Dearest proud, my dream
My heart has shattered
The vehicle of my veins
My power roar
Wet, tore my trousers
Thirsty is my tongue
I suffer stroke at your absent
Is true Rivers habitat fishes
You I fished amidst fishes
Gazing you, I bagged Uni. First Class-Upper
Your voice Riverside palm tree me
Needless to cough “I love you”
My stainless heart brim you
Oh my Virgin land, Angel, Queen
In shine, downpour, thorn, moon or twilight
In you my spirit yield
Come on! Mother my offspring.
