ACRIDITY OF VANITY'S WINE

The burden of a famished era
Hangs on to your lashes
A deadened thought then comes alive
And in your mind it flashes
A masquerade of smiles
Worn by these wretched lads and lasses
Alas, the world, cold as it is
Delights in it's trespasses
The brilliance of a grand Aurora
Captivates the masses
But they neglect the celestial flame
That'd light their dismal faces
Rich merchants with their sunstruck scalps
Search hard for love's oasis
Don't tell them it cannot be found
It'd crush their heart to pieces
A letter by my hand
I write to this old sage and lieges
That when they're sober; looking up
They'll know what true prestige is
