Salah, Rooney On Target As Everton Hold Dominant Liverpool

Liverpool were held to a 1-1 draw by Everton in the English Premier League Merseyside derby Anfield on Sunday.

Mohammed Salah scored the opener in the 42nd minute, curling in a left footed strike after he skipped past Cuca Martina and Idrissa Gueye. The goal was his 13th in the league and 19th in all competitions this season.

But Wayne Rooney salvaged a point for Everton with a late penalty, his first ever Merseyside derby goal.

With the draw, Liverpool remain unbeaten in their last 15 games against Everton. Liverpool remain fourth in the EPL table despite earning a point from the game while Everton occupy tenth place with 19 points from 16 games.

Liverpool dominated the early stages of the encounter as Everton deployed a defensive approach. The Reds despite their possession could not break the Toffees down who were solid and compact in defence.

The game failed to produce a shot on goal until Salah’s moment of individual brilliance three minutes from the break.

At the break, Everton manager brought on Aaron Lennon and Morgan Schneiderlin for Tom Davies and Oumar Niasse but it was Salah who came close to getting his second goal. The Egypt forward found his way behind the Everton defence but his header went off target.

In the 77th minute, Rooney restored parity for Everton after Dejan Lovren pushed Dominic Calvert-Lewin in the box.

After the equaliser, Jurgen Klopp brought Phillipe Coutinho on for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and the Brazilian forced a save from Jordan Pickford from a free-kick.

Liverpool had several chances to score towards the end of the game but Everton held on for a famous draw at Anfield.
