Super Falcons Drop To 39th In FIFA Women’s World Ranking, Retain No.1 In Africa



The reigning African Women’s Cup of Nations winners, Nigeria’s Super Falcons dropped one place, from 38th to 39th, in the latest FIFA Women’s World Ranking (WWR), reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

Super Falcons who clinched the AWCON title for a record ninth time in Ghana amassed 19 points from the last ranking to date despite winning four out of the five games at the tournament.

The Thomas Dernnerby’s World Cup bound side made a total 1,607 points and are ranked the topmost team in Africa.

Cameroon moved up three places in the ranking to place second in Africa and 46th in the World, while the Banyana Banyana of South Africa who also moved up two spots finished the year in third position despite finishing runners-up at the AWCON tournament. The Desiree Ellis team played more matches than any other team – eight during the period in view.

Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire occupy fourth and fifth place in Africa respectively. Ghana dropped three places to rank 68th in the world, while Cote d’Ivoire moved up one step to finish 70th.

Other teams in the top ten in Africa include Equatorial Guinea, Morocco, Algeria, Mali, and Senegal.

In the world ranking, the USA remain number one and they are followed closely by Germany, France, England, and Canada in the top five.

Australia, Netherlands, Japan, and Brazil complete the top ten in the world ranking.

The next FIFA/Coca-Cola Women’s World Ranking will be published on 29 March 2019.
