Nigeria defender, Kenneth Omeruo is delighted that his Spanish LAliga club CD Leganes are through to the Copa Del Rey Round of 16, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
Omeruo made his eighth consecutive start for CD Leganes who defeated Rayo Vallecano 1-0 to advance to the next round with a 3-2 aggregate win at the Vallecas Stadium Tuesday night.
An own goal by Uruguayan Emiliano Velázquez, coupled with the good performance of Ukrainian goalkeeper Andriy Lunin, who stopped a penalty in the encounter helped CD Leganes advance to the next round.
Nigeria international, Omeruo also eulogized the late Wilfred Agbonavbare when he came across his pictures at the Vallecas Setadium just before CD Leganes took to the pitch against the home side.
Agbonavbare was a player at Rayo Vallecano for six years from 1990–1996. He died of cancer at the Prince of Asturias Hospital in Alcalá de Henareson in, Spain on January 27, 2015. He was aged 48.
“Another win VAMOS LEGANÉS.. upon entering the stadium, I came across a picture of Nigerian Ex international Wilfred Agbonavbare as it was his former club… Respect sir.. keep resting in peace sir,” Omeruo wrote on his Twitter and Instagram plaforms.
Barcelona have won the Copa Del Rey tournament in each of the past four seasons, beating Sevilla 5-0 in the final last season.
CDLeganes, 16th in the La Liga log will host Getafe in their next league game on Friday.
