EPL Roundup: Balogun Scores In 3rd Sub Role For Brighton; Success Starts But Watford Lose To Man City



Leon Balogun came off the substitute’s bench to score his first EPL goal for Brighton and Hove Albion who defeated Crystal Palace 3-1 at the Amex Stadium on Tuesday, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Glen Murray scored the opener from the spot in the 24th minute after Jose Izquierdo was in the box.

Nigeria international Balogun who was making his third substitute appearance in the EPL this season scored with his first touch smashing home a half-volley from a corner to double Brighton’s lead in the 32nd minute of the game.

Balogun’s goal was the second quickest goal by a substitute in the EPL this season after Daniel Sturridge’s strike against West Ham (24 secs).

The 30-year-old Super Eagles defender replaced Pascal Gross in the 30th minute after Shane Duffy was sent off.

Florin Andone made it 3-0 for Brighton on the stroke of half-time.

Luka Milivojevic scored from the spot for Palace to make it 3-1 after Bernardo Fernandes balogun had fouled Wilfried Zaha in the box.

In another Tuesday night EPL game, Isaac Success made his sixth start of the season for Watford who lost 2-1 to Manchester City at the Vicarage Road. It was Manchester City’s seventh straight win of the campaign.

Leroy Sane scored the opener two minutes before the break gliding in Riyad Mahrez’s cross.

Mahrez doubled Manchester City’s lead two minutes into the second half firing in Gabriel Jesus’ cut-back pass.

Abdoulaye Doucoure grabbed a late goal for Watford in the game. It was the second away goal that Manchester City haved conceded this season.

The win extends City’s streak to nine straight wins over the Hornets and they are now five points clear of second place Liverpool.

Success was replaced in the 75th minute of his side’s defeat in his 15th appearance of the season.

At the Olympic Stadium, West Ham recorded back to back EPL wins for the first time in over a year defeating Cardiff City 3-1.

A brace Lucas Perez and another strike from Michail Antonio secured a fifth win of the campaign. Josh Murphy scored a consolatory goal for Cardiff City.

AFC Bournemouth defeated Huddersfield Town 2-1 to return to winning ways in the EPL after a winless run of four games.

First-half goals from Callum Wilson and Ryan Fraser gave Bournemouth a two-goal lead after 38 minutes but Terence Kongolo halved the deficit six minutes before half-time.
