Europa: Iwobi Rues Missed Chances In Arsenal Draw Vs Sporting Lisbon

Arsenal winger, Alex Iwobi, rues the inability of the Gunners to convert their chances in Thursday night’s Europa League clash against Portuguese side, Sporting Lisbon at the Emirates Stadium, reports.

The Gunners dominated the game for long spell but were held to a 0-0 draw by the visitors who put up a disciplined performance at the back.

“We knew it was going to be tough considering we played them away and it wasn’t easy, so we expected a difficult game again,” Iwobi told Arsenal website after the game.

” Unfortunately we created a lot of chances and we thought we’d go on to win the game, but it’s still a decent result and we need to remain focused going into the next two games. ”

Iwobi was also quick to praise Sporting Lisbon for their efforts in the game.

The Portuguese lost 1-0 to Arsenal in the first leg at home but were determined not to leave the Emirates empty handed.

“We have to give credit to Sporting because they were very compact and they made it difficult for us, but maybe that composure was lacking a bit today,” he added.

Arsenal despite the draw have already booked a place in the knockout stages of the competition but one big dent to that achievement is the injury sustained by Danny Welbeck.

Welbeck has struggled with injuries in recent times but Iwobi hopes to see the Englishman back on the pitch as soon as possible.

“It’s very challenging mentally, but sometimes it comes in the game and there’s been a lot of injuries, and unfortunately for Danny he’s had a few so we’re going to wish him the best,” he stated.

“Both sets of teams were mentally challenged and we were able to continue with the game, but like I said, we wish him all the best and we will keep on encouraging and motiving him to get back.”

Unai Emery’s men will now shift attention to Sunday’s Premier League clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

“We will go again and start analysing Wolves and that’s not going to be an easy game because they’ve been doing well this season, so onto the next one,” Iwobi declared.
