2018 Nigerian Open: Onoya Through To Main Draw As Seven Nigerians Crash

Nigeria’s Agnes Onoya has qualified for the main draw of the 2018 ITTF Challenge Seamaster Nigeria Open despite losing 11-1, 11-2 and 11-6 to Wei Wensheng in the initial stage of the Under 21 Women’s Singles, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

Onoya qualified as “Lucky Loser” along with India’s Maria Rony and Elodie Wan Kau of Mauritius.

Her compatriots Abosede Odusanya, Alimot Ayinla, Ajoke Ojomu and Iyanu Filana all lost out.

Odusanya lost 3-1 (12-10, 5-11, 11-4, 11-4) to her Chinese counterpart, Qi Fenjie just as Wang Shu overcame Alimot Ayinla in three straight sets 11-4, 11-5, 11-5.

Sun Chen proved too strong for Ajoke Ojomu recording a 3-0 win (11-3, 11-5, and 11-1) while Guo Yan received a walk-over when scheduled to face Iyanu Filana.

In the men’s Under 21 category, Wang Xingyang beat Emmanuel Augustine (11-7, 12-10, 11-9), Liu Jialiang accounted for Michael Obayomi (10-12, 11-3, 11-4, 11-4); likewise Wang Shaobo overcame Olasunkanmi Ogini (11-2, 11-4, 11-5).

The main draw commences today Friday 10th August at the Molade Okoya-Thomas Hall of Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos.
