Remember when we told you about the most bizarre laws in Africa? Yeah it gets worse.
Egyptian singer, Shyma was arrested in Cairo earlier this week for "inciting debauchery". She was detained for four days and may face further questioning for wearing underwear in a music video, and eating a banana in a suggestive manner.
Egypt is a socially conservative and deeply religious country where women are expected to not talk loudly or laugh in public to avoid harassment by men – talk about being stuck in the stone ages!
Shyma released a racy video for her song "I Have Issues" last week, and it was immediately met with complaints. In the music video, she dances in her underwear and uses fruit to seduce a classroom full of men, with "Class 69" written on the board.
The Egyptian media reported that Shyma was arrested in her home in Cairo on suspicion of 'inciting debauchery' and 'corrupting public morals'.
Following her arrest, Shyma posted on her Facebook saying:
"I apologize to all the people who saw the clip and were upset by it and took it in an inappropriate way.
I didn't imagine all this would happen and that I would be subjected to such a strong attack from everyone,"
And fair enough! Egypt has been doing the most lately – first they forced people to have anal examinations, now someone has a criminal record for eating a banana.
The video has been since removed from YouTube, but you can watch snippets of it in this reaction video here:
