Seun Kuti & Egypt 80's 'Black Times' Has Been Nominated For A Grammy

A few months ago, Seun Kuti revealed that he had submitted his latest album, Black Times for consideration at the 61st Grammy Awards. Today, the nominees were announced, and the project made the cut in the 'Best World Album' category.

Co-produced by Grammy winner, Robert Glasper, and performed alongside his late father's band, Egypt 80, Black Times is easily the youngest Kuti's most confident album to date — maybe even more so than his brilliant 2014 LP, A Long Way to the Beginning.

While the eight-track album goes on for more than an hour, it never gets boring, as he channels his father's charisma and musical adeptness, with the standout tracks being "Kuku Kee Me", "Theory Of Goat And Yam" and the iconic "Struggle Sounds".

As crazy as it seems, this is actually Seun Kuti's first Grammy nomination, and we're glad that it's clearly about the quality of his music and not just a function of who he is. We're definitely rooting for him, and we hope he brings this award home.
