Deploy technology to tackle pollution, NESREA tells manufacturers

By Nkiruka Nnorom

LAGOS THE National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency, NESREA, has expressed concern over increasing industrial pollution in the country.

The Director-General/CEO, NESREA, Dr. Lawrence Anukam, made the call at the 9th Mandatory Environmental Seminar of the Manufacturers’ Association of Nigeria, MAN, Apapa branch, in Lagos.

Anukam said: “Nigeria like other developing economies lack access to clean energy, appropriate environmental technologies, which leads to unsound environmental practices such as the indiscriminate discharge of untreated effluent, toxic emissions, gas flaring, open burning, unsafe mining practices and deforestation, among others. The use of pollution abatement technology, equipment and processes that are affordable and appropriate should, therefore, be promoted by MAN to reduce losses, maximise production and engender a business-friendly environment.”
