Noma Osula Named 'One To Watch' By The British Journal Of Photography

Since 2011, the British Journal of Photography (BJP) has made it their mission to annually highlight some of the brightest emerging photographers from all around the world — using their 'Ones To Watch' issue.

For this year's list, they've spotlighted 16 gifted photographers from four continents — selected by "a global panel of experts and tastemakers" from over 500 nominations — and one name that really stands out is Noma Osula.

The talented young photographer is known for capturing vibrant portraits that celebrate the people and culture around him. According to the BJP, his work "draws on the energy of his native Lagos for his colourful narratives on Africa".

Speaking with The Guardian Life about his portraits, Noma said:

"I’m just that guy who tries to incorporate everything he loves into his pictures, plus art has always been my darling."

About what photography means to him, Noma continued:

"It is my channel of expression. It is my voice. It is where I get lost and where I find myself. Photography gives me the ability to put all the abstracts I see and experience into one piece.

It’s amazing how the output produces essence, which may or may not be relative to everyone in the same way."

You can check out more of Noma's work on his Instagram and Tumblr.
