Eyewitnesses said the three occupiers of the Rover with the number plate, FGB 52 AA, were drunk.
They added that when they were rescued from the wreckage of their car, one of them had a broken hand, while the other had a bleeding bruised arm.
It was learnt that the driver of the car had minor injuries and reportedly fled from the scene.
An eyewitness, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Punch that, “The car was coming from the Sango end of the road; the driver was speeding. Suddenly, the vehicle somersaulted and flew over the median before crashing into the taxi which was coming from the Mokola end of the road. We rescued a woman alive, but medical help did not come on time so she died from her injuries at the scene. That was around 7am.”
He said, “The boys were also rescued and from all indication, they were drunk because their breath reeked of alcohol. We have information that the boys just left one of the night clubs on Awolowo Way in Bodija, where they had drunk.”
The woman who died reportedly sat at the back of the taxi with two others who also sustained serious injuries.
The driver and another passenger in the front were also said to have sustained injuries.
When the correspondent got to the scene of the accident, the remains of the victim were being taken away by a van belonging to the Federal Road Safety Corps. Policemen were also seen at the scene trying to maintain order.
The number of accidents on the road involving young men is on the rise. In the early hours of March 15, 2018, a driver crashed into a Honda Accord on the road and sustained injuries.
Eyewitnesses said he was coming from one of the night clubs and was drunk.
