Sacha Baron Cohen is getting ready to take the lead role in new Netflix thriller The Spy. Far from his usual funny antics, the six-episode mini-series will focus on the true story of Eli Cohen, an Israeli spy sent to work in Syria in the 1960s. Working undercover, his job was to infiltrate the highest levels of the country's political ranks.

Eli Cohen ended up becoming the Chief Adviser to the Minister of Defence, before being sentenced to death when counter-intelligence authorities found out his true identity.
The show will be written and directed by Gideon Raff, whose work you probably know from Israeli series Hatufim, which is the show that inspired Homeland. The Spy will be Sacha Baron Cohen's biggest TV commitment since Ali G.
As the Hollywood Reporter notes, the series will be distributed on Netflix across the world. No release date has been offered for the moment but we're looking forward to seeing the actor in a more serious role. In the meantime, you can always catch him in Seth Rogen’s Hilarity for Charity special on Netflix.
