Solomon Adeboye Oladele Babalola (1926-)

Professor Babalola is well known for his outstanding achievements in the study of Yoruba language and literature.  A distinguished scholar, his doctoral thesis, The Content and Form of Yoruba Ijala, published by Oxford University Press, won the Amaury Talbot Prize for the best work on West African in 1966.  He was awarded the NNOM in 1982.

Chukwuedu Nwokolo (1921-)

Professor Nwokolo, an outstanding  Medical Research, taught Medicine at various Universities.  He is most remembered for discovering and mapping out the area of lung disease in Eastern Nigeria.  He followed this up with a study of the disease in Africa and clinical research for its control.  He also undertook to identify an unknown large focus of endemic goitre and the study of juvenile tropical pancreatitis.  He was Chairman of the Board of Nigeria's National Institute of Medical Research and a member of the New York Academy of Sciences.  He was Awarded the NNOM in 1982.
