Is it just us or do Nigerians seem to have a painfully fleeting relationship with the Guinness World Records? Whenever we do break records, which rarely happens, we never stay on for very long.
Wizkid had his 'most streamed song on Spotify' record, courtesy of Drake's "One Dance", broken by Ed Sheeran; DJ Obi's record for 'longest DJ set' was broken by an American DJ. Well, Debbie Odumewu just broke her own record and we hope she gets to stay on a little longer.
Starting on November 17, the 22-year-old dancer broke the record for 'longest dance marathon by an individual', not to be confused with the record for 'longest dance party' Kafayat Shafau-Ameh famously broke at the Nokia Silverbird Danceathon in 2006.
She beat out the initial record of 123 hours and 15 minutes set in 2010 by Indian dancer, Kalamandalam Hemaletha. Debbie is still dancing in a bid to complete 150 hours, giving the next person who dares to try and break the record some healthy competition.
Debbie plans to officially end her challenge today by 4 pm. If you're in Lagos and want to cheer her on as she makes history, she is still dancing at The Palms Shopping Mall in Lekki, Lagos. You can also watch the live feed on her Instagram page.
