Winning ‘Rookie of the Year’ at the Headies, ‘Best New Artist’ at the Soundcity MVP Awards and ‘Most Promising Act’ at the NEA’s, Teni is undoubtedly the hottest emerging Nigerian artist — even YouTube has acknowledged her as an ‘Artist On The Rise’.

Since breaking out last year with the inescapable hit, “Askamaya”, Teni continued to usher out jam after jam, most notably “Case” and “Uyo Meyo”. Now, she is channeling her singing and songwriting skills into her first body of work, an EP, which she promises will come soon.

Yesterday evening, after reaching a million followers on Instagram — a major milestone for any creative — Teni used the social media app to thank her ever-growing fanbase, explaining that she now considers them her family members.

The heartwarming caption accompanied a skit and a screenshot of a comment from one of her fans, who described how Teni’s wit was what initially attracted her, but now she and her husband remain hypnotised by Teni’s beautiful music.

So, while we eagerly keep up with Teni’s hilarious Instagram page, keenly anticipating more information about the upcoming EP, we’re going back to the song that was responsible for her detonative rise to fame: “Askamaya”.
