At Konbini Nigeria we love discovering and sharing great music with each other (and jamming to our newfound favorites all day long).

But instead of just selfishly sharing these songs amongst ourselves alone, we’ve decided to create a list of all the newly released albums and EPs that have caught our attention, stolen our hearts and are constantly on repeat on our devices.

Two months ago, we highlighted some great albums and EPs — from Kizz Daniel’s aptly titled No Bad Songz to Mayorkun’s jaw-dropping The Mayor Of Lagos. Now, we are back to celebrate some January 2019 projects we think you’ll love as much as we do.

Moral Instruction by Falz

For the exceptionally produced Moral Instruction, Falz’s political fourth studio album, the rapper-singer invokes the spirit of the legendary afrobeat icon, Fela Kuti — through seamless samples and familiar themes — and the result is his most essential project to date.

Standout Tracks: “Hypocrite”, “Johnny” and “Follow Follow”.

These Buhari Times by Show Dem Camp

After pleasing the general public with their pop-leaning Palmwine Music Vol 2, Show Dem Camp, Nigeria’s primo rap group, kicked off the year with a lyrically astute, unabashedly hip-hop offering that proved very few artists, regardless of genre, are on their level.

Standout Tracks: “Shadow Of Doubt”, “+234” and “4th Republic”.

Inner Monologue, Pt. 1 by Julia Michaels

Julia Michaels is one of pop music’s most talented songwriters, and her latest project, Inner Monologue Part 1, sees the Grammy nominee operating at the peak of her powers, as she skilfully tackles issues ranging from crippling social anxiety to never-ending heartbreak.

Standout Tracks: “Anxiety”, “Into You”, “Happy”.

Assume Form by James Blake

On Assume Form, James Blake’s acclaimed third studio album, the English singer-songwriter is happier and more optimistic than we’ve ever heard him sound before, but that, thankfully, doesn’t diminish the overall affecting quality of his music.

Standout Tracks: “Mile High”, “Tell Them” and “Where’s The Catch?”.

2 Birds, 1 Stone by D-Truce

With his impressive debut album, 2 Birds, 1 Stone — a brilliantly performed and solidly written body of work — D-Truce confidently announces himself as one of the most exciting and self-aware up-and-coming Nigerian artists working today.

Standout Tracks: “Freedom”, “Conversations” and “Oga Police”.

The WIZRD by Future

At 20 tracks long, The WIZRD, Future’s seventh studio album, is a bit self-indulgent, but thanks to some solid guest appearances — Travis Scott, Gunna, Young Thug — and a heavy dose of vulnerability, it emerges as another solid outing for the consistent star.

Standout Tracks: “F&N”, “Promise U That” and “Faceshot”.

Toast To Our Differences by Rudimental

While Toast to Our Differences, the third studio album by English drum and bass band, Rudimental, might not be particularly cohesive, it’s still an immensely pleasant, star-studded project that’s endearingly earnest and uplifting.

Standout Tracks: “No Pain”, “1by1” and “Scared Of Love”.
