Guy Smarts: Bob Harper Switches To Mediterranean Diet After Heart Attack Bob Harper

The "Biggest Loser" trainer is officially a convert.

By now, you’ve probably read that Bob Harper suffered a severe heart attack last month that left him unconscious for two days. While he’s on the mend, he’s also making some changes to his lifestyle.

In a new Instagram post, Harper wrote that his doctor suggested following more of a Mediterranean diet. “Tonight’s dinner is Branzino and brussels sprouts and I started with a salad,” he captioned the photo.

The Med diet has long been touted as one of the healthiest diets to follow for its emphasis on plants, fish, and healthy fats like olive oil. Recent research also suggests that it can help boost your levels of “good” cholesterol as well as improve your mood.

Another study released earlier this month also suggests that it can reduce the chances of developing certain types of breast cancer. Lastly, it might also slash your risk of diabetes and heart disease.

If you want to try the Mediterranean diet, start by upping your intake of fresh fruits and veggies and olive oil (look for new-crop oil in a glass bottle and make sure to store it away from the light).

And you can supercharge your diet by scaling back on red meat and going for fish (try Atlantic mackerel and sardines) and legumes (such as chickpeas and lentils) to keep your heart healthy.
