Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese Matthew Hassan Kukah has revealed he has nothing personal against President Muhamadu Buhari, and their relationship has always been robust.
Addressing journalists at St Bakhita Catholic Secretariat in Sokoto, on Friday, Kukah said he has maintained a cordial relationship with the president.
“If I pick up my phone and call Mr President now he will pick it up. The other time he missed my calls he called me back and we greeted each other,” he said.
Kukah has dubbed Buhari and his APC government Islamist, and politically unwilling to tackle corruption and terrorism in Nigeria.
He has gone as far as speaking before the US Congress to paint the administration as intolerant of other major religion.
But cleric said Buhari has never over reacted.
“You know some people cry more than the bereaved,” he said.
“In a developed country, when you speak the truth you will be celebrated. Look at how people are celebrating the late Archbishop Desmond Tutu, but here people tag you as an enemy of the government.”
