Born a pauper in a manger
So strange a life from cradle to cross
Welcomed by beasts, flanked by marauders
What a gentle life of Jesus!
The star rays cleave the dark
Welcoming such a great visitor
Revealing the angelic jubilation
What a divine life of Emmanuel!
Counter- current-not the divine ordained
The power of the sword made it not
A refugee in the Black land became
What a bloody scene of the Holy Innocents!
Far from men, lived among men
Fell no victim though tempted like men
Divinity in the service of men
What a humble life of Prince of Peace!
Welcome to the world, O innocent sleeper
Dispel the darkness of the mind, O Divine light
Penetrate and soften the hardened hearts
O wonderful counselor of Bethlehem birth.
