Crossroads at Sunset

The end point is at sight

The ribbon tape across the
track

There I will get to at all
costs

Having in mind the time I’ve
indulged

Leaving behind indelible
landmarks

Which are hallmarks in the
sands of time

How can I make it to the end
point

With this maze of entangled
paths?

Which one will lead me to
safety?

When all promise the desired haven

Any wrong step I take today

Is tomorrow’s grief and
sorrow.

The sun dances its grand
finale

At the brink of the western
horizon

Soon the golden warmth will
recede

Giving way to pitch, ungodly
darkness

I just have to make a right
choice

Or bear the punishment of
incompatibility

Many a path loom ahead of me

All promising the desired
haven

In this riot of rough
brambles and heath

The lies and deception of
mankind

Proffer an admonishing
foreboding

As warning against any
reckless abandon

In this choice which may
make or mar a man

There is need for a swift,
sure footing

Which provides a springboard
when right

Or a fatal quicksand when
otherwise

I would rather a right
decision at sunset

Than a wrong one in the dawn
of the morning

I have seen with my eyes

And have heard with my ears

The destruction of many who
are hasty

In making this once in a
life time choice

I have also heard tidings of
those who are late at it

Both have a bitter long
lasting after taste

Just like between the
proverbial devils

And the deep blue sea

These fears have kept me
chained

Stopping me from smirking
down the aisle

Since the spring of my youth

Though I can’t tell whether
they are unfounded

Looking back at the lost
years

Retrospectively I have come
to realise

That between these two evils

One must be more tolerable
than the other

If given another start at a
fresh life

I don’t think I would be so
meticulous

Reminiscing with nostalgia
at this point in time

I review my stands in this
cross road at sunset.
