Walford may be a fictitious borough of London, but it’s not immune from the same everyday miseries the rest of us must face.
As well as all the death, murder, attempted murder, infidelity, plotting, heartache, returns from the grave and baby scandals, the residents of Albert Square have other, more relatable issues to deal with.
During Friday’s episode of EastEnders , eagle-eyed viewers were quick to point out one such issue.
Characters Mick Carter and Shirley Carter may have been having a serious chinwag over a cup of tea, but it wasn’t the conversation people were listening to.
Instead, there was a small background detail which left many viewers gobsmacked.
There, just over Linda’s shoulder a breakfast “deal” was advertised.
Coffee and a sausage or bacon bap – costing an eye-watering £6.
Just to provide some context, a bacon bap and regular size white coffee in Greggs will set you back £3.25.
One incensed fan pointed out this so-called deal had a massive discrepancy, taking to Twitter to say:
“#EastEnders Cathy’s Cafe sign says bacon or sausage sandwich and coffee £6 but individually there £2.50 & £1.50 who’s made a boo boo [sic].”
Others were quick to point out their disgust too.
“Bacon or sausage sandwich and coffee £6.00?! Are you taking the p**s?! #Eastenders [sic],” fumed another viewer.
“Anyone realised that the café is so expensive like £6 for a bacon butty and a coffee , that’s daylight robbery,” added someone else.
Even Londoners accustomed to being ripped off on a daily basis were baffled.
But perhaps the most disturbing detail to emerge is the fact this non-deal was spotted back in January, meaning the good people of Walford have been getting fleeced for the entirety of 2017.
No wonder Mick Carter had a face like a slapped bottom.
