kicks off today, Senator representing Cross River State Northern Senatorial District, Dr Rose Oko, has hailed the Governor of Cross River State, Sen Ben Ayade, for his vision to develop tourism.
Sen Oko made the commendation while commenting on the developmental strides of the Ayade-led administration in just two years in office, which she said has been satisfactory and worth celebrating.
She further stated that Northfest was first of its kind in the state and appreciated the Governor’s initiative about the festival and described it as the ‘creative ingenuity’ expressed as NorthFest. She also called on her senatorial district to remain peaceful, orderly and tranquil during and after the NORTHFEST celebration.
The festival brings all sons and daughters of Cross River North Senatorial district to celebrate new harvest of crops like Yam and others, and also to foster unity, love and peace in that part of the state.
The Governor of Cross River State, former governors, serving and outgone federal and state lawmakers of the Upper and lower chambers of the National Assembly, serving and outgone state lawmakers, serving and former local government chairmen, present and past commissioners, military and ex-military officers from the state, top government functionaries, traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth groups, women associations, support groups, nongovernmental organisations, media, and others will be at the festival.
She said: “NorthFest, the brainchild of His Excellency is worth commending especially when one appreciates the values it aspires to highlight hardwork, resilience, hospitality, unity, and others. It’s these set of values that we indirectly celebrate.
“Cross Riverians inclusive of northern Cross River are rightly reputed as being peaceful and hospitable: let’s demonstrate that during NorthFest. It’s not material wealth that ultimately keeps society going, it’s these sublime values I have previously mentioned that sustains any human community, let’s export this to the world. “NORTHFEST is an initiative of Governor Ben Ayade’s administration aimed at creating closer bonding, spirit of collectivity and motivation as well as unification of the good people of Northern Cross River in particular and Cross Riverians in general. The festival is expected to be held every last Saturday of September each year.”
Meanwhile, ahead of 2019, the federal lawmaker also called on Cross Riverians to ensure the re-election of Governor Ayade following his massive impact on developing the state with people oriented projects and placing the state on the world as investors’ destination.
“Permit me to use this august occasion to crave for the unanimous support for our amiable Governor Ben Ayade’s second term election in two years time. The bold ideas of His Excellency as evinced thus far require an endorsement in the form of reelection to allow him materialise the most part of his vision”, she stated.
