George Clooney Returning To TV For A 'Catch-22' Mini-Series

Eighteen years on from ER and George Clooney is getting to make his grand return to television. Currently in discussions with Paramount Television and Anonymous Content, the 56-year-old is set to star in a six-episode limited series adaptation of Catch-22

Grant Heslov will be directing the project alongside Clooney, while David Michôd (The Rover, War Machine) and Luke Davies (Lion) will be taking the reins on production.

Based on Joseph Heller's classic 1961 novel of the same name, the series has been presented as a 'dark comedy.'

As a reminder, the book is set in Italy during WW2 and tells the tale of Yossarian, a soldier desperate to go home while his army constantly increases the number of missions he must complete to be allowed to do so.

His only hope is to plead insanity under 'article 22' to escape dangerous missions, but in doing so, he would be demonstrating rationality and therefore a sane mind. Of course, the book is responsible for coining the popular phrase 'catch 22'.

In the series, George Clooney will be playing Yossarian's commander Colonel Cathcart. The lead role has not yet been cast.

Filming on the series is set to begin at the start of 2018 so you've probably got enough time to re-watch all 15 seasons of ER...
