Claude Ake (1939-1996)


Academic and Political Economist, Professor Ake was appointed Professor of Political Economy and Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Port Harcourt in 1977.  He served as President, Council for Economic and Social Research in Africa.  (1985-88).  He was consultant, Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), President Council for Economic and Social Research in Africa (1985-88).  A member of the International Social Council (UNESCO) (1987), he is author of several books among which are, A Theory of Political Integration and A Political Economy of Africa.  He was awarded the NNOM in 1985.

Akinola Aguda  (1923-)

Dr. Aguda is one of Nigeria's most distinguished legal luminaries.  Educated at London University, he severed as chief justice, Federal Republic of Botswana (1972-75) and Western State of Nigeria (1975-76).  He also served a Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (1978-88).  He is author of several books on various aspects of law.  He was awarded the NNOM in 1985.
