Sokoto Governor gives N59m car to Sultan

A custom-built state-of-the-art Mercedes Benz car, described as special breed worth N58,867,558.06 was, on Monday, presented to the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Maccido, Abubakar III, by Governor Attahiru Bafarawa of Sokoto State on behalf of the state government.

Bafarawa, at the presentation of the car, extolled the virtues of the Sultan and explained that the gift was in recognition of his (Sultan) position as the President-General of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs in Nigeria, a foremost traditional ruler, the leader of the Moslem Ummah in the country and the reigning head of the legendary Sokoto Caliphate.

Responding, the Sultan said: “Your Excellency, when the idea to purchase a befitting vehicle for me was conceived, the Sultanate Council of Sokoto notified you of our intention and you offered useful advices. We have seen the effect of your advice as the vehicle arrived safely and in good time”.

He expressed profound gratitude and appreciation for the gesture. The Sultan told the governor that as a result of his (governor’s) support, the Sultanate Council, had become financially sound to perform “our religious and administrative duties effectively, efficiently and successfully”.
