Following Asisat Oshoala’s breakthrough, it’s even more exciting to see more Nigerian women pushing the envelope in football. One of such women is Super Falcons’ star, Uchenna Kanu, who has just been named the 2019 ‘Most Outstanding Player‘ in the US Women’s Premier Soccer League.
Just yesterday, Kanu helped her club, Pensacola FC, win the championship after scoring in a finals match that ended 4-3. The performance concludes her awesome outing this season, which saw the 22-year-old score eight goals in six appearances.
Since the club signed her in 2018, she has continued to prove her mettle. With nine goals in six appearances, she was one of the forces that drove Pensacola to the finals in the last season, which they, unfortunately, lost that time around.
Kanu’s heroics don’t end at the club level, though. She played a vital role in Nigeria‘s campaign at the 2019 Women’s World Cup, helping the Super Falcons reach the round of 16 in the competition — which was the farthest they’d ever gotten.
