Health authorities in Seoul, South Korea, have confirmed about 116 persons who had earlier recovered from coronavirus (COVID-19) have tested positive again.
The Korea Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) on Monday disclosed the persons tested positive for the new Coronavirus after they were released from quarantine.
Jeong Eun-kyeong, the KCDC Director-General, said the affected persons might have contacted the virus again after they were discharged.
“While we are putting more weight on reactivation as the possible cause, we are conducting a comprehensive study on this,” Jeong told reporters.
“There have been many cases when a patient during treatment will test negative one day and positive another.”
It will be recalled Naija News last week reported at least 91 people who fully recovered from the novel coronavirus have again tested positive for COVID-19, as confirmed by the Korea Center for Disease Control and Prevention.
Based on these developments, the World Health Organization (WHO) has said it would be looking into the COVID-19 trend in South Korea.
“We are closely liaising with our clinical experts and working hard to get more information on those individual cases.
“It is important to make sure that when samples are collected for testing on suspected patients, procedures are followed properly,” a spokesperson for WHO told Reuters in a statement.
