The Ondo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is enmeshed in crisis over plans to release the screening results of 101 aspirants jostling for the chairmanship seats in the 18 Local Government Areas of the State.

The crisis is hinged on the failure of the APC leadership to timely make public the outcome of the screening exercise to the aspirants.

Already, the APC has fixed the party primary election for February 3, ahead of the council polls slated for April 18.

The screening committee, headed by the State Chairman of the APC, Ade Adetimehin, is expected to release the result of the screening on 3rd of February, the date fixed for the primaries.

It was learnt that the screening result was delayed in order to avoid crisis in the party.

Besides, sources said most of the aspirants that participated in the screening exercise are civil servants and political appointees.

Many of these appointees and civil servants have not resigned their appointments, in line with the party’s guidelines.

Some party emissaries have been dispatched to the council areas to plead with some of the aspirants to ‘honourably’ step down, before the primaries tomorrow ( tomorrow).

Moves by top party leaders in the state to persuade many of the aspirants to step down for a consensus candidate before now, did not yield results as at press time.
